The Health Sciences Campus is located in Washington Heights, near the northern end of Manhattan. It overlooks the Hudson River, the George Washington Bridge, the New Jersey Palisades, and midtown Manhattan. A biking and running trail, the Greenway, runs along the Hudson River and around the perimeter of Manhattan. Washington Heights and its northern neighbor, Inwood, contain several large parks. Within Fort Tryon Park is the Cloisters, the museum that houses the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s medieval collection. Other neighborhood highlights include numerous restaurants and eateries and a weekly outdoor farmer's market.
The Morningside Heights Campus is located in a lively college neighborhood that boasts numerous restaurants and coffee shops, several grocery stores, and bookstores. Riverside Park, which traverses the length of the Hudson River, and Central Park, stretching from 59th to 110th street, are within walking distance. The campus is also close to Manhattan’s Upper West Side, full of shopping, restaurants, and entertainment. Most students in the Neurobiology and Behavior program live in Columbia-owned graduate student apartments in Morningside Heights.
A free shuttle bus makes frequent stops between the two campuses. NYC’s extensive subway system connects both campuses to every neighborhood in the five boroughs, eliminating the need to own a car. The two Columbia campuses are a short subway or bus ride from major cultural and entertainment attractions of midtown Manhattan, Chelsea, Greenwich Village, the East Village, and SoHo. Transportation to and from the major airports (LaGuardia, Kennedy, and Newark) is easy from both campuses.
